Morocco – A Mesmerising Place for Incentives
Our MD Dave recently returned from a trip to Morocco, visiting venues and local suppliers for our clients. Morocco is a firm favourite in the Make Happen office and we wanted to share some of our insights/tips with you.
MARRAKECH
Reaching the traditional city, is easier than ever with direct flights available from a number of UK cities making it a popular choice (e.g. Manchester, Gatwick Luton and Stansted, etc.). As well as routes available to other regions in Morocco. If you’re after visiting a place infused in culture and tradition, Marrakech is the perfect choice.
Once you arrive, you immediately feel the buzz of the city whether you’re staying in the heart of the Medina or on the outskirts. Accommodation-wise there are a multitude of options to choose from: 5 star hotels, picturesque riads, mountain lodges, dessert camping and many more. For larger groups, there’s the incredible Mandarin Oriental, Four Seasons and the exquisite Selman Marrakech. If you’re looking for a lavish and luxurious trip the 6 star Royal Palm Marrakech is a no brainer.
The experiences the group can take part in are endless. For the adventurers in the group, jeep safaris, quad biking and mountain treks are the top of the list. For the wanderlusters in the group, trips to the medina, shopping in the souks and traditional brunches are perfect. A personal recommendation from the team at Make Happen would be a trip to the Atlas Mountains.
A short one hour drive from Marrakech is Ourika Valley (Atlas Mountains), where you can enjoy a variety of different landscapes and spectacular views. The green landscape of this valley and the lazy meandering torrent of the river, combined with the small red adobe Berber villages hanging on the slopes, provide the perfect backdrop to any incentive. Get to know a berber family to discover what life in this remote corner of the world is like. Enjoy the Asni Valley famous for its fruit farms and trees or why not try a different climate and enjoy the snowy summits of the mountains.
Marrakech excels as an incentive destination whether you’re looking for a relaxing 3-day trip to reward your team or a 5 day trek across the mountains. Enabling you to create great memories, reward your team and leave your organisation and colleagues with a new sense of culture.
ESSAOUIRA
The picturesque city of Essaouira is a short journey from Marrakech, if you wanted to combine a costal destination as part of a dual city trip or day excursion. With it only being a short commute from Marrakech, it’s a great hassle free way to see another side of Morocco. Essaouira is a port city on Morocco’s coast, declared a world heritage site by UNESCO. Make Happen were lucky enough to explore the destination and couldn’t recommend it highly enough.
The range of accommodation on offer is second to none, from on the beach resorts to hidden gems in the old town. From seafood, to tagine, to Makouda you can experience a variety of delicious dishes in the port.
Groups can take part in a number of adventures and leisure activities: thuya wood workshops, musical festivals, art galleries, guided tours, fish markets, traditional jewellery workshops. Take a stroll along the town’s sunlit pedestrian main square, Place Prince Moulay el Hassan and the Skala du Port. Optional: visit Jewish area of Essaouira: the Synagogue and Mellah.
We believe it’s important incentives tick all the boxes, to build strong relationships within teams and strengthen organisation’s culture. Morocco definitely creates a platform for this to happen.
