Canada – an unforgettable destination for conferences & incentives.
Hi Everyone. It’s Sophie here from Make Happen. At Make Happen we’re always on the lookout for new destinations for congresses & incentives as well as discussing our dream destinations. One of the destinations that keeps us chatting is Canada. Luckily enough, I was invited out to Vancouver visiting venues and local suppliers for our clients and I thought I’d share with you a few of my favourite things whilst there.
You can touch down in Vancouver within hours on direct flights from just about everywhere. There are over a dozen direct flight services to the US, UK, Europe and Asia available daily. However, if you’re flying into Vancouver from a short-haul, domestic destination such as Victoria or other parts of Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands or Whistler, you can also travel via scheduled floatplane or helicopter services – a popular option among groups when looking at dual location incentive trips (who wouldn’t want to see more of Canada!).
Vancouver is a four-season destination, making it flexible for groups at any time of the year. The overwhelming impact of the wilderness (mountains, ocean & parks) instantly refreshes and re-centres you. A vast multicultural population, endless activities, and excellent infrastructure, Vancouver is welcoming to all.
Accommodation-wise, there’s a large selection of boutique hotels, medium to large resorts/hotels, buy-out options and Air BnB’s to choose from – depending on your group’s size and preferences. Boutique hotels for smaller groups include The Douglas, Opus Hotel, Loden Hotel, The Wedgewood, Shangri-La Vancouver. For larger groups, there’s an array of high-end, hotels on offer including JW Marriott Parq Vancouver, Fairmont (there are 3 in close vicinity), Four Seasons, Rosewood Hotel Georgia. Many hotels offer ocean, park and mountain views. If your group is looking for a larger space the BC Place stadium is a great option for large congresses/exhibitions (multi-functional, retractable roof).
Renowned for its soaring mountains, bustling harbours, unmatched scenery, gastronomy, history & lifestyle. Vancouver is an adventurers dream – from urban trails to single-track mountain biking routes, to Stanley Park and guided bike and hiking tours.
Senora Resort (British Columbia)
Less than an hour from Vancouver but a world away from of the city vibe, Sonora Resort offers an oasis of pristine natural environment and world-class adventure – with five-star luxury.
Getting there, Sonora is accessible by helicopter or seaplane from Vancouver, Water Taxi from Campbell River, seaplane from Seattle and charter flights anywhere in the world. Five-star service here comes as standard: the passion for Senora you feel from the all of the staff and people that work at the resort is contagious.
There’s a range of accommodation at Senora, from rooms to suites to private villas. All 88 rooms are located across 12 B.C themed lodges with floor to ceiling views of the mountains and wilderness. You have access to hot tubs, an outdoor pool and pristine jogging/walking routes all around.
Sonora offers everything from some of the best fishing on the West Coast to golf, grizzly bear spotting, rib boat whale watching, cooking experiences and foraging and survival activities. A destination that will permanently remain in my memory.
It’s important that conferences and incentive events these days have aims, meaning and outputs. Transformational travel is not just a trend, it is a tool to help businesses to find solutions to challenges, build strong relationships and ultimately thrive through its people.
As Canada can attest, when you choose the right destination there is a myriad of ways to energise and transform your delegates mindset.
